Project Overview
Scent Memory Insurance is a service that uses scent as a medium to influence memory and emotional experiences through stored scent capsules. Shifting the focus from treatment to prevention, it preserves scents significant to early childhood—between ages 1 and 5—when smell plays a key role in awakening and strengthening deep memories. Over five years, scents from direct family members, personal preferences, living environments, toys, and pets are individually captured. A specialized device then amplifies these scents to evoke memories and positively influence emotions.
Background
Olfaction plays a crucial role in memory, emotion, and social connection. While most COVID-19 patients with smell loss recover within a month, many experience parosmia—distorted, unpleasant scents that can last for months. Research shows that scents experienced between ages 1 and 5 form lasting memories, even in Alzheimer’s patients. This project explores how enhancing olfactory perception can support disease prevention and slow memory decline
