Conscious breathing

Project Overview

The device creates an ecosystem by generating water vapour, triggered by the micro-currents and volume changes produced during slime bacteria growth. Through the device, humans can observe fluctuations in the vapour and perceive the bacteria’s life state. In turn, human respiration and body temperature influence the intensity of the vapour, altering the bacteria’s ecosystem and affecting their life processes. By engaging in breathing and visualising the vapour, the interaction fosters a form of communication between species, prompting reflection on how we might coexist with nature under a shared dome

Background

Within the planet’s web of matter, how might we recognise each other’s presence and share a silent dialogue with other life forms? Slime molds shift between solitary cells and collective bodies, sensing the air for signs of sustenance, reshaping themselves to survive. Our breath, warmth, and the subtle currents we create in the air can reach them—forming an invisible bridge, a shared flow of life through which two species meet under the same sky
